Nandini, the only daughter of Tarun Nanavati, the biggest saree tycoon in the town, has married to Shekhar, an aspiring writer. Tarunbhai is extremely unhappy about it, even after two years of this marriage. And recently Nandini has also started feeling the crunch. She is finding it difficult to adjust with the middle-class lifestyle.

On the wedding anniversary, she returns to her father’s house, angry and anguished. Tarunbhai cannot take it anymore and forces Shekhar to stay with them as Gharjamai, Shekhar accepts the decision only because he cannot stay without his daughter Priya, life starts on a different note for Shekhar and Nandini. Shekhar keeps trying his lick at the literary circles and Nandini joins Tarunbhai’s business and soon takes it to the big heights.

The couple who was madly in love with each other, just a few months back.

Suddenly find no time for each other, especially Nandini, as she is too busy in her work. Shekhar is finding it really humiliating to stay in Tarunbhai’s house, as Tarunbhai never leaves an opportunity to taunt him for not making big money.

And one day, on the auspicious day of diwaso, when wives keep a fast fro their beloved husbands, Shekhar receives good news. A publisher from Delhi wants to publish his first book. In an ecstatic state of mind he rushes to a nearby saree shop to buy a saree fro Nandini.. but to his surprise Nandini gets angry when she receives this gift, she feels humiliated because Shekhar has bought the saree from the rival shop and by the means of cheque discounting, she throws the saree and insults Shekhar, accusing him for being short sighted and a loser. Shekhar cannot take it anymore and he leaves the house.

Priya is grown up now.. And she is in love with Rahul.. Nandini, by now known as the businesswoman of the Asia, understands about it and interviews Rahul. Rahul manages to impress her and Nandini asks Priya whether she wants to marry him. Priya cannot say no. Nandini grants the permission fro the marriage but putting the same condition, which Tarunbhai kept for Shekhar long time ago.. She wants Rahul to stay in her house as a Gharjamai. Rahul accepts the offer whole heatedly. Because he has other intentions as well.

Rahul turns out to be an orphan who was raised by Shekhar. He has seen Shekhar nursing the bruises of humiliation for whole of his life.
