This
is the story of a small town women with a burning desire of becoming
famous. Manjula Patel gets married to Jignesh Marfatia,
a middle class man, who lives in Fanas Wadi, a typical Gujarati
Chawl of Mumbai.
The people living, in this chawl are men & women - next door - types.
All of them have problems that are faced by common man. Manjula, after
getting married to Jignesh, comes & stays with these people. Though,
she loves her middle class husband, her craving for materialistic happiness
is as strong as ever. She spends her husband's office money to take
part in the local beauty contest called "Miss Fanas Wadi". To win this,
she bribes a Judge, who happens to be TV Producer. He invites her to
play a lead role in his Mythological Serial.
Manjula is happy as her dreams seen coming true. But the TV Producer's
partner attempt to eve-teas her. She comes home wounded, where she is
concerned by Jignesh, who asks her why did she go to such sidy place
on the holy day of "VAD SAVITRI". Manjula & Jignesh argue a lot & during
the quarrel she says "Be a man go & teach a lesson to the man who has
tried to eve teas your wife & if you are killed in doing so, then I
will become SATI'.
A women notorious in the chawl for misquoting people, over hears Manjula.
She tells the chawl people that Manjula is going to become SATI after
her husband dies. Manjula seizes the opportunity & dominates her husband,
she becomes SATI. She lies to people that her husband is going to die.
She does it to become rich & famous overnight inspite of a strong opposition
of her husband. And she becomes rich & famous overnight.
She is sort of cult figure now, people worship & Manjula enjoys this
Satihood. But the destiny has something unpredictable for Manjula, up
its sleeve. Her husband falls ill & he is on a death bed. Manjula, who
was doing a Natak of SATI, realizes that her followers will make her
burn alive as SATI.
She is trapped in her own net. How does she come out of the mess, created
by her self is an interesting aspect of this entertaining play called
"MRS.MANJULA MARFATIA B.A. WITH GUJARATI."
